The project addresses the problems of portability and efficiency of programs for multi-core processors. Future processor architectures will consist of hundreds if not thousands of cores, and one of the biggest challenges faced by the software industry is how to effectively parallelise applications, so that they efficiently use the available cores. The DORADO project addresses this problem by developing dataflow based tools and techniques for programming multi-core processors. Dataflow programming is an inherently parallel way of describing computer programs that promises to allow easy portability between different multi-core architectures and energy efficient impementation.
