The sulfur capture by oil shale ashes has been studied using a pressurized thermogravimetric apparatus at conditions typical for atmospheric and pressurized fluidized bed combustion. In general, results show that the oil shale cannot only capture its own sulfur but also significant amounts of additional sulfur of another fuel if the fuels are mixed together.
