Biografia

I received my PhD in aquatic sciences in 2020 from the University of Helsinki on population dynamics of flounders in the Baltic Sea. I have also worked as project manager in the EU Interreg project "RETROUT" at HELCOM on sea trouts and river restoration. Currently I work as project researcher within the Finnish Nature Panel's (https://luontopaneeli.fi) project LITORE (Expression forms of nature loss in Finnish coastal waters–guidelines for decision makers for conservation of marine biodiversity) at Åbo Akademi University.

Tutkimuksen mielenkiinnon kohteet

I am an aquatic biologist and ecologist. Previously I have been working mostly with fish ecology and have special expertise in Baltic Sea flounders and their population dynamics. I have also gained experience in conservation biology, policy and practise of migratory fish and their river waters including environmental restorations. Altogether, over the years I have worked with different fish species and systems, stock dynamics, population modelling with Bayesian techniques, population genetics, biomanipulation, climate change effects, among others.

In my current position as project researcher in LITORE (Expression forms of nature loss in Finnish coastal waters–guidelines for decision makers for conservation of marine biodiversity) I will assess the state of coastal marine biodiversity in Finland. The project will explore how nature loss is manifested in shallow coastal habitats, how it differs between areas, and how vulnerable different habitats and species are to local and climate pressures.
