    Abstract

This paper examines the musical practices (needs, habits, and taste) of the audience of Kolarčeva zadužbina (Ilija M. Kolarac Foundation) in Belgrade. The aim is sabinica602@gmail.com 358 to identify and describe all aspects of the audience’s musical practices and to determine the nature and importance of the relationship between respondents’ musical practices and their artistic family traditions, as well as other factors of social inequality. In addition, the paper points to the particularities of this audience’s practices as compared to those of the national sample. The results support the audience’s authentic affinity for music manifest in intensive musical activity both privately and publicly. The audience’s distinctive feature is high preference for classical music and opera, whereas their favouring of “starogradska” (lit. old city) music and traditional folk music indicates their cultural affiliation. On the other hand, in accordance with other similar studies of our society, this study also confirms a significant, but not strict, influence of artistic family tradition and certain socio-demographic characteristics on the audience’s cultural/musical practices.
