Virtual Education in Iran’s Higher Education: Faculty Reflection on the Application of Web 2.0 in University of Kurdistan

Sammanfattning

This paper draws on findings from a study on the Faculty’s reflection regarding to the application of Web 2.0 technologies in University of Kurdistan. Using interview data was collected from the 16 Faculty who engaged in teaching and research of humanities. The findings showed that the application of Web 2.0 tools in University of Kurdistan faces significant challenges according to the participating Faculty. The traditional mindset embedded in objectivism as an ontological perspective and behaviorism as learning theory was the fundamental barrier to implement and develop Web 2.0 technologies. The traditional mindset was found to infiltrate into four integrated context: the University’s Faculty, students, official administration and social culture.
