title = "Roll-to-roll processed nanocellulose coatings for barriers applications",
abstract = "Processing • Complex Theological behavior of CNF suspensions is used to help process them into uniform coating layers • The coating apparatus fluidizes the material and thereby enables application of thick and uniform CNF coatings • Addition of CMC was found useful for improving the coatability of CNF suspensions by way of improving the water retention and modifying the low shear rheology. Mechanical properties • CNF coating improves the strength properties to some extent even at very low coat weights. Barrier properties • The improvement in barrier properties of CNF coated paperboards with increasing coating thickness was substantial • CNF-coated paperboards demonstrated excellent barrier against air, heptane vapor, grease and mineral oil • WVTR also improved significantly with the CNF coating • Coating at higher CNF concentrations, and the impact of substrate and CNF type on the coating process will be addressed in future work.",
