Sammanfattning

According to Holmberg et al. (1993) the finite sentence of Finnish is a structure with 2–6functional heads. In this article, the theory is developed further and the functional headsare reanalyzed. The functional categories are divided into two categories: (i) lexical categoriesNeg, Aux, V, and C; (ii) morphological categories: AgrS, T, and Ptc. These categoriesare in separate tiers, and the tiers are linked to each other. Both lexical and morphologicalcategories are hierarchically organized, and the linking between the tiers follows thesehierarchies. The result of the reanalysis is a system that does not involve movement nor acomplicated constituent structure of functional categories even though the desired propertiesof the previous analysis remain.
