    Sammanfattning

The effects of base paper grammage and sodium chloride (NaCl) content in the base paper prior to pigment coating were studied with regard to the electrical and dielectric properties of the coated paper. The results reveal not only the effect of the base paper but also the role of base paper-coating interaction. The surface and volume conductivities were dependent on the coat weight, but this dependence was influenced by both base paper ion content and grammage. The potential half decay and the real part of the dielectric constant increased with increasing coat weight. By gradually changing the ion content of the base paper and thus the surface and volume conductivities, we were able to change the electrical and dielectric properties of the coated papers and hence demonstrate different ion-induced effects.
