Sammanfattning

The article analyses the characterization of Jesus in the Gospel of John, focusing on the the depiction of emotions.  It is argued that the various layers of Johannine tradition and redaction attribute different sets of emotions to Jesus. The oldest tradition depicts a miracle man with heroic but at times rough human emotions.  The pre-passion written layer presents an elevated divine figure who, however, lacks human compassion.  The final redaction taht produced the present Gospel and its passion storyline, again has a more human Jesus - yet without compromising his divine status.
