Sammanfattning

A device designed for the measurement of fiber floc sizes in highly turbulent fiber suspensions is shortly described. The measuring principle is based on frequency analysis of a series of digital photos taken on flowing fiber suspensions. The pictures are acquired with a digital camera at actual paper machine consistencies and at well defined flow velocities, up to 7 m/s. Frequency analysis is performed on each picture separately by scanning and Fourier transforming in both machine and cross directions. The average of all spectral densities calculated on all digital pictures in the MD and CD gives us the energy variance at different floc sizes, as well as information about the characteristic floc size of the investigated fiber suspension.
