N2 - The combustion of polymeric materials includes two distinct chemical reactions: the thermal decomposition of the polymer, producing gaseous and condensed products; and the exothermic oxidation of the decomposition outputs, producing the final combustion products. A scientific approach to the problems concerning the combustion of polymeric materials requires the combination of classical methods of determining material properties, quantitative test results such as the ease of ignition, composition and the toxicity of the flue gases and methods of modeling which include fire scenarios, combustion models, and the utilization of the ideas of chemometrics.
