Bio-CLC: Chemical-Looping Combustion (CLC) captures CO2 by separating it from other gases in the combustion process, which eliminates the need for costly and energy demanding CO2 separation later. Chemical-Looping Combustion of biomass (BioCLC) would allow biomass-burning operators to achieve not just neutral, but negative CO2 emissions – taking it out of the atmospheric cycle and thereby helping to combat climate change.
The goal of the Negative CO2 project is to develop a technology that enables CO2 capture and negative CO2 emissions with the lowest possible cost and energy penalty. To reach this goal the following activities are undertaken: pilot plant operation; reserach on oxygen carrier materials; flue gas treatment technologies; ash and corrosion issues; and upscaling and implementation. In this project Åbo Akademi University focuses mainly on understanding interactions between biomass ash and bed materials and on the selection of heat transfer surface materials.Kort titel | Negative CO2 |
