The political landscape has shifted in the Nordic countries and in the EU. The influence from strict conservative and right-wing politics in several European countries has implications for concrete social work and diaconia in churches. The churches respond both in word and practice. At the same time, we see that often the responses tend to be reactive rather than proactive opening new perspectives for lived life in society and the world. A quest for a societal theology where the churches offer proposals grounded in faith practice and theology offer new ways of being church and society. This panel for a discussion on new challenges for churches relating to migration, diaconia and inter-religious encounters in the Nordic countries. Is there a need for new theology forming strategies and concrete actions? If so, what can be possible directions coming out of diaconal knowledge, experiences, and theology? What aspects do we have to bring into reflection for diaconal practice and theology today? What are the new challenges, new necessities, and maybe new possibilities?
This is a panel with invited guests and open for all interested in listening in. The guests will have 10 minutes for their input. Then a discussion will follow on explorative political theology for new practices in diaconia.
