Abstrakti
A method for determining the resin distribution in handsheets was developed. The method involves staining of resin dissolved in acetone with a fluorescent dye and injecting the resin into water, followed by removal of the acetone from the resin dispersion by dialysis. After sheet preparation, using a cationic fixing agent to aggregate the resin, the sheets are examined with confocal laser scanning microscopy. In this model system the resin did not become uniformly distributed on the fibres in the sheets. Resin aggregates from 1 mu m up to about 10 mu m could be observed. These aggregates are of the size that can be expected with the fixing agent used.
