Concern about global warming issues has resulted in investigations to lower the CO2 emissions from steelmaking, which today represent 6-7 % of the anthropogenic CO2 emissions in the world. The oxygen blast furnace (OBF) has been proposed as a solution .1 In the OBF operation, oxygen is used instead of air and the top gas is recycled after CO2 removal to be injected either in lower tuyeres or upper tuyeres, or in both. If the separated CO2 is captured, the OBF concept can considerably reduce the emissions.
