Ceramides belong to animportant class of sphingolipids and play key role in different biologicalprocesses such as cell signaling, proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis.Particularly, the role of ceramides in apoptosis has received special attentionin recent years. The objective of his researchproject is to understand how favorably (or unfavorably) ceramides associate withdifferent phospholipids and with other sphingolipids thought to be present inlipid domains in cell membranes, which may have distinct effects on cell physiology.
Md Abdullah Al Sazzad is currently a Post-doctoral researcher working in the Laboratory of Lipid and Membrane Biochemistry at Åbo Akademi Univeristy. He received his PhD in 2017. His PhD thesis project has taken place during October, 2013 - December, 2017 in Biochemistry, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Åbo Akademi University, Finland. Sazzad completed MSc in Bioinformatics from University of Turku in 2013 and received his BSc in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering from Khulna University, Bangladesh. He has expertise in Analytical Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Bioinformatics. His research is focused on the interplay between lipids in membranes and how lipid structure and interactions affect the lateral heterogeneity of membranes.
