    Abstract

This paper is the fifth in a series on the nitrogen chemistry in the chemical recovery cycle of kraft pulp in ills. It compares a kinetic expression for the formation of ammonia from cyanate with experimental data for the decomposition of cyanate in kraft pulp mill green liquors from three mills, as well as mill balance data from one of the mills. The kinetic expression accounts for both the uncatalyzed reaction and the reaction catalyzed by bicarbonate. Borate was added to an industrial green liquor to determine whether boron has a catalytic effect in green liquor, and no noticeable effect was observed.
