Abstract

This document provides a comprehensive guide for preparing and conducting virtual reality (VR) teaching sessions, emphasizing the importance of thorough preparation and contingency planning. It covers key aspects such as technology readiness, logistics, session structure, and the selection of appropriate VR software. Practical advice is given on ensuring smooth operations, including internet and equipment management, room bookings, and preloading content. The document also offers suggestions for creating an effective pedagogical approach, including flipped classrooms, pre-session preparations, and clear instructions during the VR experience. Additionally, post-session activities such as guided reflection, group discussions, and project-based assignments are highlighted to maximize learning outcomes. It also contains examples of how VR has been used in various courses at Åbo Akademi University, Finland, illustrating its application and effectiveness in enhancing student learning.
