Abstract
The article reviews research on sustainable development and cultural heritage in ethnology at åbo Akademi University in the different decades from the 1960s onwards. Much stress is laid upon research that is interesting from an ecological point of view. This means that studies in agricultural, maritime and mill societies are presented as well as studies in the cultural heritage of the Swedish spaaking Finns in all regions that has such a population. Also studies of historical upheavals are discussed. Many of these studies have been conducted as students´ analyses for masters thesises.
