Abstract
Recent advances in the preparation of solvent-stabilized Ru metal particles of controlled size and shape using surfactant-assisted techniques such as microemulsion (ME) and colloidal synthesis are discussed. Catalytic applications of Ru nanoparticles (NPs) both as colloidal particles and immobilized on solid supports in a broad range of reactions including ammonia synthesis, hydrogenation, oxidation, condensation, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, Redox reactions, and in electrocatalysis are addressed. Some regularities of chemical transformations of Ru(III) into Ru(0) during colloidal synthesis, role of the protective agent and available methods to improve accessibility of Ru are also described.
