Abstract
What poetry, how, and for what reasons do we read poetry in school? In this essay, I search for current tendencies and trends in research on poetry pedagogy. The essay concludes that research emphasizes the importance of applying a broad view of poetry in poetry teaching and for making poetry available by various means for young people. It points to the importance of
drawing attention to the emancipatory power of poetry. Also, current research emphasizes that both analytical close reading, as well as personal experience, is crucial in poetry teaching. It also highlights the possibilities that exist in
combining poetry with other art forms. Overall, the essay points to current research on poetry pedagogy and how it provides new insights and impulses that can inspire new creative approaches in poetry teaching.
