Konstkritiken och det nationella i Finland och Sverige 1950-2000

The proposed project has two general objectives. Primarily: to create a digital register of art criticism written in Swedish in both countries. The register will cover the major newspapers during the period 1950-2000. Secondly: to use the data generated by the registration in order to investigate the articulation of value judgments in the material. In particular we want to focus upon value judgments connected to conceptions about nationalism and the national. Finally the project aims at clarifying the likenesses, differences, changes and trends in the conception of national identity that can be seen in a comparison between Finnish and Swedish art criticism.
