Abstract
The paper deals with stories told by students of practical nursing. The data are gathered in optional learning circles organised by the nursing school during a period of three years. The method applied is ethnomethodological conversation analysis. The study focuses on the stories’ evaluation sequence and story tellers’ technique making recipient reaction and affiliation relevant. The study deals with the hypothesis that the evaluation sequence may function as a possible learning space. The study suggests that affiliative activities and recipients’ validation of the story can lead to shared learning experiences whereas a lack of them diminishes the story’s potential to serve as a possible learning space.
