Abstract
The identification of lignan nortrachelogenin (NTG) in knot and branch heartwood of Scots pine was reported. The structure of NTG was determined by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Isolation by preparative flash chromatography of the acetone knot and branch heartwood extracts yielded the compound as a yellowish amorphous powder. The H and C NMR shifts of the compound were found to be in good agreement with the theoretical results.
