    Abstract

Human life is completely dependent on energy, the living force utilized in various forms for the sustenance in this universe. In the current era, it has been realized that the energy sources offering power to the automobiles, electric and electronic appliances are no more available for meeting future requirements due to their depletion and harm to the environment. This sub-chapter deal with the possible energy alternative for the future, “Hydrogen Energy”, based on the issues dealt with the current energy systems in terms of political and environmental concern. Also, the sources of hydrogen and chemical processes related to hydrogen production from those sources are discussed in detail. Further, the important problem associated with H2 energy systems, which is storage of H2, and the technologies emerged so far to solve this storage issue, is also addressed. Finally, this sub-chapter ends with the discussion on challenges in commercializing H2 energy systems.
