Abstract

The paper presents an on-line model of the liquid levels in the blast furnace hearth based on mass balances, estimates of the production rates and measurements of the outflow rates of iron and slag. The hearth is divided into m regions and a scheme is provided for correction to prevent the liquid level estimates from becoming physically unrealistic. The model is applied on measurement data from a blast furnace, which is usually operated by alternate tappings from two of three tapholes. The liquid level estimates, as well as the corrections required are illustrated for cases with different model parameters. The main findings of the analysis are presented together with thoughts on future developments of the model.
