Abstract
The rotational band of alpha cluster states in S-32 has been studied experimentally by elastic scattering of 12.4 to 17.1 MeV alpha particles from natural silicon targets and compared to bands in Si-28, Ar-36 and Ti-44. Fourier analysis of the excitation function indicates the existence of a vibrational mode in addition to the rotational. The rotation implies a joint rotation of a core circled by an alpha particle. Parameters characterizing the mass and thickness of the jointly rotating mass are extracted from the experimental results.
