Decolonialism and education

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference proceeding › Entry for encyclopedia/dictionary › Scientific › peer-review

Abstract

This entry treats the concept of decolonialism in education from three perspectives: a postcolonial, a decolonial, and an Indigenous studies’ take on decolonization and education. The notions discussed are not isolated phenomena but stand in relation to each other in terms of genealogy and academic succession, as well as critique and opposition. The final section of the entry focuses on decolonial education and memory policies. It discusses whether some of the aims of decolonial education, for example, the goals to alter educational policies and further awareness of past atrocities, have succeeded and what the future of decolonial educational and memory policies might be.
