Abstract
This review deals with the analytical and preparative chromatography of microcystins and nodularins, cyclic peptide liver toxins and tumor promoters from cyanobacteria. The chemistry of the toxins, extraction from various matrices, separation on different stationary phases, and detection of intact and derivatized toxins are considered. An introduction to other chemical and biological methods for microcystin analysis is also presented. Finally a list of selected starting points for analysis set-up is given.
