Abstract
The book argues that the Gospel of John is a heavily reworked and amplified edition of an earlier Johannine work, which did not contain the passion storyline. The book explores the passion redactor's different means of legitimizing the passion story, such as the creation of the "Beloved Disciple" to witness Jesus' death and resurrection.
