Abstract
A review with 11 refs. is presented. A significant amt. of N -- the amt. corresponding to the amt. of N in the NOx emission from the recovery boiler -- converts to the form of NH3 during green and white liquor processing. The NH3-forming compd. is cyanate (OCN) which originates in the smelt from the recovery boiler. There are several release points for this NH3, but in all, this NH3 is removed from the recovery process at the latest during the first effects of black liquor evapn.
