Abstract
More than a hundred fragments of alpha-cluster states in S-32 With spins from 3 (h) over bar to 10 (h) over bar have been observed in elastic alpha-particle scattering from Si-28. The energy spectra are investigated in terms of a nonlinear Lagrangian, associated with the dynamics of the system, which adds a new collective motion to the well known rotational and vibrational motions in nuclei. The present model not only reproduces the observed levels but predicts also the positions and spins of other levels for both even and odd parities.
