Abstract
Is a conservative social theory possible? Sociological andepistemological perspectives [In Swedish]. According to Mannheim, conservatism as a mentality is not inclined to theoretical thinking. However, the article identifies some of conservatist thinking's main starting points. The most important is the epistemological idea of historical accumulation of tacit knowledge, which cannot be reduced to ideas or rational principles. From this starting point, one logically arrives to Popper's idea of Open Society, rather than to any of the ideas currently advocated by political neo-conservatism.
