Center of Excellence in Bioelectronic Activation of Cell Functions

Project Details

Description

The ÅAU Center of Excellence project BACE aims to developing a platform for bioelectronic activation that enables control of cell signals, and, thereby, stimulation of cell functions.

The research is based on the knowledge that the function of the cell – the cell’s behavior – can be changed due to external stimuli that effects the cell-signaling machinery. An important part of the inter-cellular communication is the interaction between ligands (transmitters) and receptors (receivers) on the surface of the cell.

The planned activation platform is a further development of a unique bio-FET-based sensor that was previously produced by our researchers. The sensor enables the possibility to measure the strength of the ligand-receptor interactions with a hitherto unsurpassed sensitivity. At this stage, the results form the basis for new technology.
