Research interests

His main research topics centers on the concepts of regime support and democratic backsliding, with a specific focus on the on-going process of authoritarisation in post-communist Eastern European countries.  Other research interests are public opinion, system support theories and the functioning of regional and global governance institutions.

Biography

PD Thomas Karv (1988) is a Project Researcher and University Teacher at Samforsk, The Social Science Research Institute, anindependent department within the Faculty of Social Sciences, Business andEconomics at Åbo Akademi University. He finished his doctoral dissertationin Political Science with Mass Communication in the autumn of 2019, specializing in country-level variations in EU attitudes. His current research focus is on exploring the relationship between regime support and democraticbacksliding. 

He is, furthermore, also an electedmember of the City Council and City Board of Uusikaarlepyy (Nykarleby), Finland.
