Biography

I work as professor in the Study of Religions at Åbo Akademi University and Vice-Director of the ÅAU Centre of Excellence in Research (2024-2028) "Religion and Social Exclusion" (RelEx). 

I currently also function as the Principal Investigator for the projects ReCoVirA: Religious Communities in the Virtual Age (Finnish part, 2022-2024) and Christian Cultural Memory in the Margins: Vernacular Christian Practices in Finland (2023-2026).

I mainly conduct research and supervise in the following areas:

  • The sociology of religion
  • The discursive study of religion
  • Religion, media, and popular culture
  • Religion in market- and consumer society
  • Religion and social exclusion
  • Religion and young adults
  • Method and theory in the Study of Religions
  • Mixed methods approaches in the Study of Religions
