Research interests

​Jonas Ahlskog is University Lecturer in History at Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU). Ahlskog holds the Title of Docent in Philosophy (ÅAU, 2020) and the Title of Docent in the History of Ideas (University of Oulu, 2023).

Ahlskog's main research interests include the history of ideas and philosophy and theory of history and the human sciences. In the history of ideas, he is primarily interested in conceptions of nation, class and minority in political and ideological movements during the 20th century. His philosophical and theoretical research focuses on historical knowledge and method, action, understanding, explanation, testimony, memory, and cultural theory.

Currently, Ahlskog is on research leave from his position as University Lecturer until January 2027. His present research work is conducted as Principal Investigator of the Kone Foundation research project Doing Justice to Experience: Relations to the Difficult Past in History and Memory. ​

Besides his academic research, Ahlskog is concurrently working within non-formal adult education. He was managing director (verksamhetsledare) of the organisation Folkets Bildningsförbund r.f., 2010-2020, an association organizing public discussion about social and cultural issues. In recent years, Ahlskog has been adviser (sakkunnig) for Svenska folkskolans vänner r.f., within a project about contemporary challenges for non-formal adult education.
