Research interests

My research interests include material culture, consumption, lifestyle, work and leisure, family and gender history as well as microhistory, cultural history and history of elites in eighteenth and nineteenth-century Sweden, Finland and Europe.

I have published on material culture, consuming practices, credit and debt, private economy of elite families, handicrafts and shopping, life at country house and in town, food culture and work of servants. My current research topics include research on the cultural history of work, material culture, everyday life, family history and country houses and manorial society in eighteenth-century Sweden.

Together with Charlotta Wolff, I organise the online seminar Methods in cultural and intellectual history (Europe, Scandinavia).

 

From 2023, I am the president of the Finnish Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies.

I am a member of the board for open access history journal Historisk Tidskrift för Finland, member of the board for open access journal Apparence(s), and member of the editorial board for the series Crossing Boundaries: Turku Medieval and Early Modern Studies at Amsterdam University Press.

From 2011 to 2022, I was co-editor for the open access 1700-tal – Nordic Journal for Eighteenth-Century Studies, and from 2016 to 2020, co-editor for Historiallinen Aikakauskirja.
