Biography

Dr. Gunilla Karlberg-Granlund is working as a teacher educator at the Faculty of Education and Welfare Studies, Åbo Akademi University in Finland.

Research interests

  • Exploring the educational, cultural, and social environments and characteristics of small rural schools, laying a foundation for understanding the possibilities, challenges, and constraints that teachers and pupils may face in these contexts, as well as exploring what educational quality, equity and sustainability mean.
  • Facilitation of teachers’ and teacher students’ professional learning and development through action research.
  • Teacher education research.

Teaching and supervising

Teaching is a privilege. Gunilla Karlberg-Granlund has been teaching in different contexts, from primary school to pre-service and in-service teacher education. Together with her colleagues Gunilla Karlberg-Granlund is currently teaching and developing courses in general didactics, teaching and learning, and supervising bachelor and master theses.

Gunilla Karlberg-Granlund is a member and group coordinator of the Nordic Network for Action Research. She is also a member of the Pedagogy, Education and Praxis (PEP) international collaborative research network, which has members from universities in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Colombia, Australia, and New Zealand.
