Personal profile

Research interests

I am a doctoral researcher in psychology and part of the Interpersonal Relations Research Group at Åbo Akademi University. In my disseration I am focusing on associations between difficulties finding a female partner and displays of anti-feminism and sexism in individuals identifying as men who are romantically and/or sexually interested in women.

My research focuses on individual variation in anti-feminist and sexist attitudes, such as misogyny and hostility toward women, but also more subtle forms of sexism, like benevolent sexism (flattering, paternalistic sexism that appears positive or protective toward women but is rooted in traditional stereotypes that reinforce gender inequality), and belief in a sexism shift in society (i.e., a contemporary form of anti-female sexism and the belief that men are the primary victims of sexism due to women's societal advancements). I am also interested in if supporting regulations on female sexual autonomy could partly stem from difficulties in the perceived capacity to attract female partners in men. My aim is to deepen our understanding the complex processes behind the individual development of anti-feminist and sexist attitudes.

I have experience of being employed as a university teacher for 1.5 years. My teaching has focused on research ethics and research methodology. Research ethics is an interest area of mine and I am currently chair of the Ethical Committee of Psychology and Speech and Language Pathology at Åbo Akademi University.

I am also interested in climate change- and environmental psychology. As a graduate student, I was a course coodinator for and involved in the creating of a course on Climate Change and Psychology. I have also worked as a Research Assistant in both forensic- and evolutionary psychology projects.

I have a Masters in Psychology from Åbo Akademi University and a Bachelor in Social psychology from the University of Helsinki. I am also a licensed psychologist in Finland. My clinical work experience includes working at outpatient psychiatric clinics, as a study psychologist, and on online chat forums for adolescents.
