Biography

I work as a university lecturer in Gender Studies, teaching and supervising at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. I enjoy teaching at all levels, from the introduction course to courses aimed at post-graduate students. Additionally, I deliver lectures and workshops on university pedagogy. I regularly and extensively teach feminist theory, qualitative methods, creative academic writing, and methodology. I have facilitated seminars for BA and MA theses and currently supervise four doctoral researchers.

I am an associate professor (in Swedish: docent) in Gender Studies, particularly methodology (Åbo Akademi University). My academic background includes a PhD in Gender Studies and an MA in Nordic Ethnology, both obtained from Åbo Akademi University. My doctoral research, completed in 2014, focused on the construction of eating disorders and girlhood within girls' blogs. This study draws from girl studies, blog research within the qualitative tradition of cultural analysis, and feminist inquiries into the body and eating disorders.

Since completing my doctoral thesis, I have been working on girlhood and urban space (funded by The Turku Urban Research Programme), critical autoethnography, ethics, and poetic inquiry, and temporality in children’s and youth’s literature and culture, as well as temporality in combination with environmental questions (funded by Svenska litteratursällskapet i Finland).

My research interests span feminist urban studies, girlhood studies, youth studies, internet studies, and methodological inquiries within ethnography. I am particularly drawn to interdisciplinary approaches that intersect these areas. I aim to integrate research, scholarly writing, and poetic expression. I have focused on critical autoethnography, poetic inquiry, and interviewing techniques, contributing to publications in these domains.

Since 2023, I serve as the editor-in-chief of the journal Finsk Tidskrift (http://www.finsktidskrift.fi).
