This course introduces key aspects of the study of religions to students of social exclusion. Students will be introduced to key components of the study of religions including relevant methodologies and theoretical approaches, especially as it relates to current theoretical perspectives on social exclusion. Students will also explore a range of global case studies and examples of social exclusion as they occur in different contexts. This course thus provides in-depth insights for the comprehension of a range of relevant aspects of social exclusion in relation to religion and life-views. The course also provides knowledge and critical analyses of strategies common to religious organisations and institutions. The following are examples of topics that may be covered during the lectures: • Definitions and/or concepts of religion, • Religion, inequality, and social exclusion, • International faith-based institutions/organisations and social action, • Multiculturalism, religious diversity, and migration, • Minority religions and social exclusion.
