The course explores how research ethics, positioning and self-reflexivity is approached in gender studies regarding research on topics that can be polarizing or conflictual (e.g. issues of gender, identity and sexuality, race, racialization and racism, or different forms of belonging: nationality, religion, different subcultures).The course examines dominant methodological perspectives in gender studies, and the challenges posed by the complex dynamics of social relations and the tendencies in scientific endeavours to ideologize research in various ways.The course examines, challenges and develops approaches to self-reflexivity bu engaging in different types of discourse analysis, participant observation and interview methods, and develops an engaged dialogical, methodological approach.
