Description

I acted as a moderator for a session on multilingualism and identity.

The aim of the session was to discuss how Finnish society enables multiple identities and multilingualism. Researchers Laura Ekholm and Marion Kwiatkowski talked about what it is like to live in Finland with several languages, and how integration and language support are implemented in real life. We also discussed the role of language in identity formation and social inclusion. The session will conclude with a final commentary and a public discussion.

Integration 2022 was organised by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment in cooperation with the ELY Centres of Uusimaa and Pirkanmaa and the City of Tampere. The City of Helsinki, the City of Espoo and the Red Cross have also been involved in making the event happen. At the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the preparations for the event are coordinated by the Centre of Expertise in Immigrant Integration. The event was co-funded by the European Union. Integration events are part of the Partnership programme to promote integration.
