Description

DeMarg is a discourse-analytically oriented network of five European universities in Finland, Germany, Poland, and Sweden. Our scholarly interests focus on questions concerning the discursive positioning of subjects and groups. In a variety of events, we focus on different social fields and promote plural debates about issues and practices of discursive (self-)positioning.
We are particularly interested in the tension between two discursive dynamics: marginalization and demarginalization. We take an explicit diversity-oriented approach to society, facilitate debates that promote it, and undertake critical analyses of what restricts it.
What are centralizing discourses, who places whom in peripheries, who takes and assigns what positions with what agenda? DeMarg discusses these and related questions in an open space of scholarly events. We see ourselves as a conference network of flat hierarchies in linguistics, cultural studies, and adjacent fields in the humanities and social sciences.
DeMarg is interdisciplinary, pluralistic, dynamic, and friendly.
